Are you caring for someone and finding it’s difficult to be everything to a person you love? Are you worried about having to use long-term care because you can’t do it anymore? Adult day services may be the answer to widen your footprint of care.
Adult day services give older adults, people with dementia and adults with disabilities the opportunity to engage in a social setting. Specially trained staff understand their journey and provide support.
Adult day programs provide social and personal care to people who need supervision but continue to seek engagement and a feeling of belonging. Adult day centers can also help you, as a care partner, refresh and manage both your lives. Adult day can also be a place where your care partner wants to be, supplying much needed positive anticipation.
Adult day centers are typically open during business hours five days a week. Adult day centers provide:
Social activities—getting together with others in targeted and meaningful activities
Transportation—door-to-door transportation arranged through local providers and access to field trips and community activity.
Meals and snacks—offering nutritious food to clients and accommodating special dietary needs when possible.
Personal care—help with personal hygiene, bathroom reminders and assistance and other grooming activities. Bathing may be arranged according to site staffing and accessibility.
Therapeutic activities—exercise, education, creative arts, active games and fun is always on the schedule. An activity calendar is available to help shape each client’s day.
Care Planning—provides an opportunity to adjust to changing needs, learn approaches and receive support in the care partner journey.
Adult day services provide the best of both worlds: supportive care and resources and the ability to age in place. Adult day centers may help delay the need to move to memory care by months or even years. The best part is adult day services can put joy back into the definition of life. The journey ahead may be difficult, but it is more tolerable if tomorrow is filled with laughter and friends.
Cassia’s mission is to foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love. At Open Circle, the mission is visible every day. In the spirit of compassion, we walk alongside our friends. We sing, dance, paint, write poetry, go fishing, laugh and cry together. That is what good friends do. Ask about how you can join the circle.
You can listen to this podcast to hear the voices of those who understand and make Open Circle possible.
